The indoor unit typically consists of an expansion device, air-to-refrigerant cooling coil, and an air fan while the outdoor unit may have a condenser coil along with a compressor. Little commercial buildings can generally stand to benefit from this type of HVAC system as in addition to a cool gust of air, they also tend to provide a high energy efficiency rating that can help in saving energy and electricity cost. However, if heating is also needed, then an alternate heating method may also have to be deployed such as a gas or electric heating technique.

  • Heat Pump – A heat pump resembles a Cooling Only System and can either be a split or packaged system but with an exception. Here, a special valve is used in the refrigeration piping so that a refrigeration cycle can be achieved in reverse also. This way, a heat pump can cool an indoor environment and when the valve gets reversed, it can also heat an interior. A supplementary electric heater can be used with it in case of extended colder spells as during that time, a heat pump may need a defrost period while the heater will heat a building interior.
